Why Choose Foam Board Printing

Picture poster board printing is a great affordable way to execute complicated special cut options. Photo booth owners use posterboard printing (see also canvas poster prints) to develop craft ideas as photo props. We have done everything from speech bubbles with nifty sayings or even 3D pop-up displays for trade show stands! Posterboard printing is at the pinnacle of the most utilized advertising indoor substrates, and you can even get them mounted.

Tried and true methods of indoor advertising have been used for years now. Foam board printing is considered a Low-cost substrate and is always most attractive to new business owners trying to spread their message and attract new business. It’s easily shaped, has the fantastic ability to hold bright and vibrant UV inks, and is highly cost-efficient. These factors have made Foam board printing the most utilized form for indoor use to date!

Foam board signs are the most affordable and, at the same time, most effective in today’s market, even beating out Gatorboard printing (see 1/2” and 3/16” material thickness). Custom print on foam board signs is used in schools, malls, and trade shows every day to display amazing, unique pieces of advertising and artwork. Its affordability and durability make foam board signs so widely used today.

Posterboard printing methods are excellent for the long term. Foam board signs last a long time and maintain a similar quality level, making them ideal for those who want to get a lot of usage. Foam board signs are also quite flexible since many foam board signs sizes are there to choose from. So, whether you’re looking for small poster boards, a medium-sized one, or a large one, you’ll easily be able to order the custom size you need.

Best of all, there are various options for thickness. Thick poster boards last the longest, but you don’t always need a thick one - it depends on the usage. If it will see low usage, then having a medium or thinner board will allow you to save a little bit on cost, but it will still last long enough to get some good “mileage” out of it.

How to Display Foam Board Signs

The board it self was great! However, I missed an error in the original artwork we approved, so I wish there would have been someone with FoamCorePrint proofing it and catching possible mistakes. Customer service was excellent when inquiring about a reorder, however, the website is slow and it takes forever to upload the artwork.

The only complaint I have was the user experience for your website. The ordering process was very confusing. I didn't know when I was supposed to upload the artwork. Having to upload and preview the artwork after checkout is not a good experience. You basically are paying for something without knowing how it looks.

I was nervous about entering my billing information before uploading my images, but I was able to review, modify, and approve the images and update shipping after making the transaction. Jennifer was very helpful throughout the process and the signs were delivered more quickly than expected since they were able to fulfill the order within the cutoff time.

Frequently asked Questions

FAQ

Foam board printing is a type of signmaking that involves the use of foam board to create signage. Foam boards are made from polystyrene, which is an inexpensive material and can be easily cut with a knife or hole puncher. They are lightweight and easy to transport, making them ideal for businesses on the go.

Posterboard and foam board are materials that can be used to create a poster. Poster boards are typically made of cardboard, while foam boards are generally polystyrene or PVC. Poster boards have a more textured surface than foam boards, better for displaying intricate designs and colors. Foam boards allow for a smoother finish, making them ideal for printing photographs because they will not show any wrinkles in the paper from handling it so much.

However, some argue that poster boards are more of a traditional rolled poster mounted onto a foam board; this process is called photo mounting. Lamination is used for different finish styles like matte, gloss, or semi-gloss during this process. This technique is aged, and the poster paper tends to separate over time and degrade. Since then, advancements in technologies have taken over the printing industry. New cutting-edge flatbed direct UV digital cured printers and inks are the way if the future and photo mounting is now a thing of the past.

Foam board lasts for a long time, but the lifespan of foam board depends on how it is treated. If you store your foam boards in a dry place and out of direct sunlight they will last longer than if they are stored in humid places or outside.

One type of foam board that is best for printing is the matte finish. This type of board will not reflect light and it will be easy to see your work on it. It also has a smooth surface which makes it easier to cut with a knife or scissors, as well as paint with acrylics or watercolors
The advantages of foam board printing are that foam board printing is a low-cost alternative to the traditional poster and billboard advertising. Foam boards are lightweight, easy to carry, and can be reused. This makes them ideal for transport from one venue to another or from one event to another. They're also great for those who want the option of changing messages quickly, as well as those who want an affordable way of posting messages in high-traffic areas.

Yes, all the materials can be printed directly onto the surface at 1000 dpi in full color. In the printing industry, using flatbed UV digital printers is referred to as "Direct to Substrate Printing."

Unfortunately no. At this time, the foam board does not come in black. However, we do offer a much more rigid product that is dent, bend, and crease resistant called Gator board. Gatorboard is compressed black foam is offered in 3/16" and 1/2" thickness offers a beautiful clay face and a matte finish. Read this blog post for more information on foam board vs. gatorboard and what's best for you.

Absolutely! Foamboard is perfect for cutting into special custom shapes like the contour of a logos, or even 3D lettering. Use the Cut option "special" and be sure to follow our guild on how to set up cut files.

A Cut option is not required; it is a unique finishing option for custom shapes other than squares or rectangles. Here is a list of Cut options styles;

  1. Circle-Cut (perfect circles) We prefer you submit full-scale square designs with your colors flooded edge to edge; you will see the final circle layout in the proofing process.
  2. Oval-Cut (perfect ovals) same as the circle above; we prefer you submit full-scale rectangle designs with vibrant colors flooded edge to edge.
  3. Halo-Cut (you are in control of the path the CNC machine takes, unique custom outside shape)
  4. Special-Cut (custom shape, inside and outside cuts are okay) Both Special & Halo Cuts require additional art set up; check out How to Set Up-Cut Files.

Unfortunately no, being foam board is derived from paper it not a great candidate for outdoor usage. However, we do offer other materials that are designed for outdoor usage that are water and weatherproof. Sinta signs or Aluminum are both great affordable waterproof options.

Foam board poster is another term for foam board printing, foam core board, or any other names you can think of for traditional foam board. There are many names for foam board posters, but the product is the same in the end.

Foam poster boards come in standard 3/16" thickness, 1/2", and 1/8". Standard 3/16" foam poster board is relatively universal and is widely used for presentations, tradeshows, or even pop-up displays. 1/2" foam board is used for wall mounting to add additional depth and avoid costly framing. If the intention is to frame your prints, then 1/8" foam poster boards are perfect for you!

Yes, you can frame foam poster board. The most critical aspect of this question is the frame itself! Standard foam board is 3/16" thick and maybe too thick to frame for some hardware. Whereas foam poster board in 1/8" is the perfect thickness for framing. Always double-check to confirm the depth of the frame for the required .125" clearance, plus the matboard and backing.

The start price of foam board with full-color direct print at 1000dpi costs $9.13 per sqft and can be as low as $3.65 an sqft.

Foam Board Cost per sqft. Breakdown
Units Size Cost Per Unit Sqft Discount Subtotal Total
1 12x12" $9.13   $9.13
250 12x12" $8.44 -$171.03 $2,110.50
500 12x12" $7.76 -$684.12 $3,879.00
1250 12x12" $5.71 -$4,275.78 $7,131.25
2500 12x12" $3.66 -$13,682.50 $9,132.50

Rounded corners refer to the finish of the physical board itself. The edges will have a nice straight cut finish without rounded corners, where round allows smooth rounded corners. The measurements refer to the corners' severity or degrees (radial bend). Rounded corner sizes from less to more dramatic corners;

  • 1/4"
  • 3/8"
  • 1/2" standard
  • 3/4"
  • 1"
Rounded corner options

A Gloss finish has a liquid coating applied to the board and appears to have a shiny sheen. At the same time, the matte finish seems flat dull and will drown out any glare from surrounding bright lighting. The finish is always a personal preference; however, always keep in mind the surroundings. If you are at a tradeshow with lots of lighting and plan to take pictures for social media, you may want to consider a matte finish. The matte finish will help knock down glare and allow for the highest quality photos. Overlighting is why the matte finish is always the preferred finish option for showroom settings or tradeshows.

Grommets offer the edges of your board more additional reinforcement when hanging with hooks.

Yes, grommets go all the way through the board. When you add grommets, they will penetrate the surface through the center and board's backing.

Grommets are placed .75" on center from each corner the option is selected, the holes themselves are .37". The placement of your grommets is crucial to avoid unwanted holes in your designs.
