Since gatorboard is made from a combination of paper and polystyrene foam core, it is very durable. However, printing on gator board is not water-resistant, so you cannot use it outdoors. Gatorboard prints will be damaged beyond repair if exposed to outdoor elements, especially rain and snow. You can post them outside, but only in favorable weather conditions, for short periods.
Gator board signage can be ordered up to 60x120" and manufactured with drill holes, grommets, circle cuts, and "Special cut" options into any shape a graphic artist can think of and design up. Make the selections when adding to the shopping cart, and the price per piece will update in real time as you make the changes.
Gator board prints are lightweight and rigid; they have a solid, dense foam core center with matte clay backing on both sides. Our custom Gator boards are available in 3/16″ and 1/2″ thicknesses; they can be cut to any custom size and can be printed directly on one or two sides using vibrant UV ink. Why frame your family photos and artwork? It's so costly and time-consuming the hassle outweighs the positive. Print and hang your photographs and artwork on a prevalent custom gator board today and ensure your valuable images will last in time.
A gator board sign is not ideal for outdoor use because the conditions can destroy the gatorboard material. Alternatively, you can look at Sintra signs as a more weatherproof alternative, as they will not break down from exposure when installed outdoors.
4x8” Gatorboard - Ideal for photos, watercolors, or oil paintings
16x20” Gatorboard - great for constructing displays, photo and sign mounting
24x36 Gatorboard prints - suitable for mounting prints, photos, displays, and art projects
30x40" - perfect for architectural models, mock-ups, as well as exhibits and displays
Hang your gator board on walls with screws, nails, or 3M adhesive-backed products. Drilled holes are another popular hanging option you can select when configuring your purchase if you're looking to mount your custom gator board safely to the wall.
Gatorboard signs are made for indoor use only. With gator board printing, you'll want to avoid placing your sign where it will be exposed to increased moisture or liquids (including using liquid cleaning solutions), as this will cause permanent damage to the material and, in some cases, tearing of the board. You can use a microfiber cloth to clean your gatorboard sign to remove dirt and debris.
Apart from Sintra boards, you can take a look at what other kinds of board signs you can go with that we have on offer through our printing service online:
Perhaps one of the most versatile materials, an acrylic sign is an excellent choice for just about any business. The flexible plastic from which the acrylic signs are made is durable and lightweight. So, whatever your need, there is a strong chance acrylic signage can provide a permanent and durable solution. Contact FoamCorePrint today to discuss how we can solve your signage needs!
PVC Signs are made from lightweight compressed PVC foam sheets with a matte finish made of the material known as polyvinyl chloride. PVC signs are typically used for outdoor signage, and their longevity depends on the weather, direct sunlight, and material thickness. PVC signs are everywhere - outdoor advertising, retail stores, and even your home! One reason why they're so common is that they're easy to manufacture and install.
Coroplast or Yard Signs are pressure resistant and defy crushing, warping, and punctures with regular usage. Completely waterproof, they are a top choice for temporary outdoor use. Yard signs are waterproof, hold UV inks exceptionally well, and, most importantly, do not discolor or bend easily. They are utilized as trade show signage, "For Sale" signs, yard sale signs, and even sign spinners or twirlers on the sidewalk bringing in traffic from the busy street corners tailored to your personal business needs!
Styrene is a unique material used as an indoor sign or outdoor sign. Commonly used for retail signage, restaurant menus, storefront displays, or trade shows, they are very convenient because they are lightweight and can uphold harsh conditions. When printing on Styrene, make sure your photos are high-resolution. Otherwise, your styrene prints won’t have the most amazing quality possible.
Unlike printing on gatorboard, magnets are weather resistant, and the quality won't suffer. If properly maintained and cleaned, they typically last 1-2 years. If you rely on your vehicle for business, a custom magnet car sign would be the best solution to spread your message or improve your branding day in and out. As far as magnetic vehicle signs go, here at Foam Core Print, your satisfaction with them has a 100% quality guarantee.

FAQ
Gatorboard is a cousin of foam board and is much more rigid and durable. In fact, its rigid characteristics make gatorboard an industry standard for trade shows.
Gator board signs are technically considered a form of foam board. It is a rigid black compressed foam center encased in a wood-fiber veneer. However, the gator is more rigid, and the clay face will only allow for a matte. No semi-gloss finish is available. Gatorboard's exterior plastic surface is much more rigid and resistant to warping. However, it's not acid-free, so it needs to be handled with proper care if used for permanent use.
The traditional foamboard is a cheaper alternative, but it can easily dent and bend. In turn, permanently damaging your board. We suggest a custom gatorboard sign for those who need a more rigid product. Read more on Foamboard vs. gatorboard

A Cut option is not required; it is a unique finishing option for shapes other than squares or rectangles. Here is a list of Cut options styles;
Circle-Cut (perfect circles) We prefer you submit full-scale square designs with your colors flooded edge to edge; you will see the final circle layout in the proofing process.
Oval-Cut (perfect ovals), same as the circle above; we prefer you submit full-scale rectangle designs with your colors flooded edge to edge.
Halo-Cut (you are in control of the path the CNC machine takes, unique custom outside shape)
Special-Cut (custom shape, inside and outside cuts are okay) Both Special & Halo Cuts require additional art set up; check out How to Set Up-Cut Files.
Your custom Gator board can last many years if stored properly. If mounted indoors and if the print is not in direct contact with UV rays from the sun, you can expect 3-5 years, if not longer.
Gatorboard has a clay face and compressed black foam in the center; the clay face is white and has an impressive matte finish. Below is an image of the gatorboard from a side view.
There is always a lifespan on any product. If the products are cared for, cleaned, and stored away correctly, they last many years. We use UV-coated permanent LED inks designed to hold up over time to sunlight. The more direct contact with the daylight your prints have will impact the longevity of your gatorboard prints.
No, Gator Boards are not waterproof. Gatorboard is made from compressed black foam board and has a clay face; the material will degrade rapidly if left outside or exposed to outdoor weather.
The term Gatorboard mounting is actually used to describe a photo or photopaper mounted onto a gatorboard; this process is called photo mounting. This process uses lamination for different finish styles like matte, gloss, or semi-gloss. This technique is aged, and the poster paper tends to separate over time and degrade. Since then, advancements in technology have taken over the printing industry. New cutting-edge flatbed direct UV digital cured printers and inks are the way of the future, and photo mounting is now a thing of the past. Foam core print only uses a UV digital direct-to-substrate printing method, we do not offer photo mounting.
The physical weight of the 3/16" gator board is 0.2093 lbs per ft.². The formula for weight calculation on your specific dimension product can be figured by multiplying your length x width divided by 144 = Your Physical Weight.
Standoff hardware looks like a complicated version of a screw, and it is. It's a separator that's threaded. What are standoffs? They come to different lengths to raise one material over another. They consist of a wall screw, barrel, and cap, usually made of aluminum. Please take a closer look in detail with images in our blog post.
Standoff holes are .41" and placed .75" in the center from each corner the option is selected. Immediately after your purchase, you will upload your graphics and see a visual representation of the standoff holes in the online proofing stage.

Our custom Gatorboard is made from compressed black foam board and has a clay face, and is only in a matte-up finish; the UV liquid gloss coating absorbs directly into the clay face very porous, and will not bind to the material.
Easels are a vertical table display option installed on your substrate's backside with an adhesive. The items are shipping flat, but when the items are received, the boards are unpacked, and the easel back simply swings out and allows the board to be displayed. A prevalent option in retail settings along with tradeshows.
